DESCRIPTION:Diocesan-wide celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday\n\nEveryone is invited to Holy Redeemer Church on Sunday\, April 8 for the diocesan-wide celebration of Divine Mercy Sunday. The event will include a talk by Dr. Bryan Thatcher on Divine Mercy followed by Eucharistic Adoration with the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. \nThe message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska\, an uneducated Polish nun who\, in obedience to her spiritual director\, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God’s mercy. Even before her death in 1938\, the devotion to The Divine Mercy had begun to spread. \nThe message of mercy is that God loves us — all of us — no matter how great our sins. He wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins\, so that we will call upon Him with trust\, receive His mercy\, and let it flow through us to others. \nABOUT THE SPEAKER: Dr. Bryan S. Thatcher\, MD\, of Tampa\, FL\, is a retired medical doctor who travels the world speaking on the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist\, the message of Divine Mercy\, and his personal conversion. He and his wife\, Susan\, have seven children. In 1996 he founded Eucharistic Apostles of the Divine Mercy (EADM)\, now a lay apostolate of the Congregation of Marians of the Immaculate Conception. EADM is now active in 35 countries worldwide\, and received three special Apostolic Blessings from the late Holy Father\, Pope John Paul II\, for its work. The ministry of Eucharistic Apostles promotes the notion that Divine Mercy is more than a message or devotion\, rather\, it is a “Way of Life.”

SUMMARY:Surviving Divorce Series
DESCRIPTION:For men & women seeking healing from divorce. A new group for divorced and separated Catholics will begin Feb. 8\, 2018. The group uses DVD’s with REAL LIFE divorce stories of hope and healing. They are young and old; their spouse left some of them. Others felt forced to file divorce. Regardless\, no one wanted to end up this way. They are worried about their kids\, money\, the future\, what others will say\, and what the church says about state of life. Can they go to Communion? Are they excommunicated? Do they have to get an annulment? These are questions they had\, and ones others may have\, too. With each DVD there is then time for discussion\, reflection and support. Whether you got divorced ten days ago or ten years ago\, the program offers valuable insight for everyone. The group will meet at Holy Family on Thursdays at 7pm starting Feb. 8\, 2018 through mid-May. \nIf you are divorced or separated\, or know a Catholic who is – whether practicing the faith or away from the Church right now – please contact Christine Shafer\, Director of Pastoral Care & Faith Formation\, for more information at 616-891-9259 or cshafer@holyfamilycaledonia.org. SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday: Start of the Lenten Season
DESCRIPTION:Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation\, but Mass attendance is encouraged. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition\, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. Plan ahead: This year Ash Wednesday falls on February 14\, also Valentine’s Day.  Since concurrence with Valentine’s Day does not diminish Ash Wednesday’s penitential spirit or required fast and abstinence\, it is recommended that Valentine’s celebrations be observed on another day.
